Studio LK has been commissioned to provide the full design team through all stages of work for this mix use project for 147 flats, 2,500 sq ft office space, 75 sq m ground floor retail unit and a community hub on this town centre site.
The client’s brief was to redesign the existing planning permission proposal, to be a ‘contemporary looking’ building, primarily for PRS, which would be attractive to a younger London market, with the aim of establishing an exemplar building in sustainable design in the town centre site in Kent.
The building uses good architectural and urban design that is viable and deliverable, and which reflects the scale of the existing street context, whilst punctuating the crossroads with a tower, reflective of other towers and steeples in the wider context. Local materials such as brick are used.
Key constraints include building on contaminated land and within the vicinity of the railway line. Close collaboration with the respective statutory bodies has been continuous.
