(Studio LK, whilst with the Prince’s Foundation) In June 2010, Tangshan Planning & Construction Administration instructed an Enquiry by Design for the masterplan of an unrban quarter in Tangshan, China.
The brief was to help the local planning department design a new masterplan for an urban quarter within Tangshan, on the site of the previous university, which was destroyed in the famous 1975 earthquake.
A masterplan and architectural house types were produced, based on the traditional architecture and urbanism found in and around Tanghan.
This meant that the proposed places and buildings would be more in keeping with the existing buildings and spaces, and help to enhance the local character.
