The Studio LK team, whilst with Seymour Harris Keppie, undertook the scope of work that included designing, planning, acquiring building permits, preparing tender, site supervision and interior design.
Carr Manor Community School – the design intention is to make the building a strong statement to the students, staff and community alike, expressing a clear architectural vision.
The creation of a variety of spaces both internally and externally manifested itself in a radiating theme, linked by a central Arena, partially covered and walkways at varying levels. This will be seen as a place of celebration and performance where celebrations of sporting achievements and ceremonies could take place.
This is a place of learning with civic, rather than institutional status. The building sits comfortably in its landscape setting, where public and private spaces are easily identifiable. The building is easy to navigate and move through due to the building’s hierarchy of spaces and visual variety.
The building provides spaces and shelter that give users a feeling of protection, welcome and support in addition to the core teaching spaces. The overall visual impact is managed by careful distribution of accommodation, providing a civic building presenting a public presence of appropriate scale to the surrounding neighbourhood.
