Queen Margaret University is located in Edinburgh, Scotland. This was a £50m project, comprising approximately 26,000 sqm of floor space.
Studio LK, whilst with Dyer, undertook the space planning and interior design packages for the main building (shown above). The building is divided into three key elements: the owned spaces (offices, support etc), the Learning Resource Centre, and the teaching spaces. The Learning Resource Centre is the key linking space between the owned and teaching spaces.
Designing flexibility into all of these spaces was a key client requirement. The client was also keen to move away from the concept of individualised offices to flexible open spaces offices and break out hubs, to be used for relaxation, and more informal meetings and working.
