The Studio LK team, whilst with Seymour Harris Keppie, undertook the scope of work that included designing, planning, acquiring building permits, preparing tender, site supervision and interior design.
South Leeds High School (renamed Cockburn John Charles Academy) – the building sits at the western edge of the Belle Isle community, and adjacent to the railway line and the Centre for Sport. The concept was for the building to be an object building, which acted as a landmark in the community and on approach into Belle Isle.
The school is entered from John Charles Approach, northwards, with the main entrance being located in a drum shaped element, which links two wings that front onto the rail line edge. The northern wing is adjoined by two classroom wings on its eastern edge, each comprising external courtyard spaces between the wings for plan and educational activities.
